At our 44th National Convention in 2016, Tri Sigma added March of Dimes as a national philanthropic partner. The March of Dimes funds research and programs which work to end premature birth, birth defects, and infant mortality. Through a network of five Prematurity Research Centers around the country, they bring together researchers from different disciplines, many of whom were not previously engaged in prematurity research, to find the unknown causes of premature birth and new ways to prevent it. The March of Dimes also works to educate new mothers on ways to care for themselves during pregnancy. Premature birth is the number one killer of babies in the United States.
In spring 2015, our chapter held its first philanthropy event, Tri Sigma Night Live, and raised $1220 for the Robbie Page Memorial Fund. Since then, the sisters of Theta Zeta have hosted a philanthropic fundraiser at least once per semester, including events such as "Kindergarten Dinner", "Trikes for Tri Sigma", and "Cake Pops for Preemies". Our first annual "March [Madness] of Dimes" basketball tournament was held in the Spring of 2022.
Our members are passionate about serving children and families impacted by prematurity, and have donated not only to the Tri Sigma Foundation, but also do organizations such as Black Mamas Matter and Zelie's Home to create an impact right here in Cleveland.
